The National Museum: Highlights, Art from 1945 to the Present
Pictures and short texts showcase 150 highlights of The National Museum's collection of art from 1945 to the modern day. The book presents one of many possible perspectives on the history of recent visual art, and the selection displays the wide range of contemporary art forms that exist in both the Norwegian and the international art worlds.
Among the works presented are Hannah Ryggen's politically charged tapestries, Jakob Weidemann's abstract depictions of nature, Louise Bourgeois's enigmatic Celle VIII, Kjartan Slettemark's controversial Vietnam picture and Ilya Kabakov's permanent installation The Garbage Man (The Man Who Never Threw Anything Away).
