Slottet og Linstow. Den nye hovedstadens grunnstein

The decision to build the Royal Palace in the centre of Christiania was made in 1822, and it took 25 years to complete the construction. The catalogue explains how the edifice came to be built in a city that had a total population of around 39,000 at the time. The Palace and its architect, Hans Ditlev Frants Linstow, established the parameters for the settlement of the new capital and gave the city its identity. The architect was an outstanding craftsman, and his precise and meticulous presentation drawings proposing the interior decoration of the Palace, called "The Great Composition", are reproduced in the book. In addition to information about the architect and the creation of the Palace, the book includes articles about the city, the urban plan, the park surrounding the Palace and later modifications.
