L’Impératrice de la Nuit reveals the intimacy: firstly that of a friendship between the couturier Per Spook and Madame Hélène Martini, the Empress of the night; secondly that of the wardrobe of a woman for whom elegance was a rule; thirdly that of the personal diary of a widow at the head of an empire.
The haute couture outfits presented in this book were all imagined, designed and created to Madame Martini by Per Spook between 1966 and 1994. The photographswere taken by the designer himself in Norway between 2019 and 2021.
Per Spook is Norway's most influencial fashion designer. He moved to Paris when he was 20 years old where he worked as a freelance designer with Christian Dior or Saint Laurent. From 1977–1995, Spook ran his own fashion house in Paris.
