Highlights from the collection. Paintings 1500–1900

In this book you will experience some of the highlights from the National Museum’s collection of older paintings. In a rich selection of portraits, landscape motifs, still lifes and religious representations, you will meet artists that were active over a period of 400 years. Among these are Orazio Gentileschi, Johan Christian Dahl, Kitty Kielland, Christian Krohg, Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot and Edvard Munch.

The collection has been created over the years from 1836, when the National Gallery was established, and up to the present day. The book follows selected halls in the museum’s
collection with texts from the various rooms.
