Harriet Backer, «Every Atom is Colour»

Harriet Backer (1845–1932) holds a central position in Norwegian art history. She made her debut at the Paris Salon in 1880, lived in Munich and Paris, and when she returned home to Norway, she founded what became a central painting school in Kristiana. Here she taught Norwegian painters like Nikolai Astrup, Halfdan Egedius, and Harald Sohlberg, among others.

Backer’s art is multifaceted. She is particularly distinguished by her colourful interiors depicting various environments of her own time.
