Hannah Ryggen. The Weaving Humanist

Hannah Ryggen (1894–1970) was a Swedish–Norwegian artist whose pictorial responses to the current events of her time were piercing and courageous. Through her tapestries she revolutionised the traditional medium, turning it into an outlet for expression and scathing political critique.

Ryggen’s art is enjoying renewed interest today, acknowledged for its innovation and its humanist messages.
