Nina Berre, "The City and Blindern. The University of Oslo 200 Years"

The University of Oslo is the oldest and largest university in Norway. When it was founded in 1811 it was a prominent symbol of the newly independent country. Since then, the university's building projects, which testify to the varying architectural ideals of different eras, have been the subject of frequent discussion. Major changes have taken place between the time the first buildings were erected, in the city centre and at Tøyen, and more recent times, with new construction at Blindern and Gaustadbekkdalen. Neoclassicism was the dominant architectural style when the plans for the lower part of Blindern were launched, but by the late 1920s the style of functionalism had begun to gain traction.

The catalogue comprises eight articles written specifically for this catalogue, based partially on earlier research and partially on more recent scholarship. The extensive gallery of images familiarises the reader with international models, existing buildings, and plans that were never realized.
